Allegory of the cave

The different ways people are deceived by media and movies, in my opinion are distractions for people to know what is happening in the world around them. Most people use media as a source of knowledge. In this era there are many people who have become influences for others just by showing their lifestyle. In “Plato: The Allegory of the Cave” the prisoners only know one way of living. It is set where one prisoner is set free to observe the world around him knowing that shadows are his reality. In the writing it is said “He would be able to look upon the sun itself and see its true nature, not by reflections in water or phantasms of it is an alien setting”. My analysis to this quote is how the prisoner perceives this new world he was brought into, and questioning his reality within the cave. This new knowledge and knowing beyond his beliefs just shows how much fiction is mistaken for reality. People in today’s society still question what they believe in, knowing what they have been told since childhood puts us in a spot of fiction vs reality. It makes me question how well we use our media to our knowledge and how we learn from these influences. In Plato’s Cave the prisoners have been there since childhood which leads them to their reality of shadows and echoes. The possibility of the physical world not being reality is a concerning topic. How do we look at life and what motive do we have to keep moving forward with knowledge? If the physical world wasn’t our reality we would not have a concern or belief in our everyday life. I believe our physical world is reality. The possibility of the physical world not being reality is questionable, because when we are born this is all we know and we have no knowledge of the world being a fake reality.
